Surface Marker Buoys (otherwise known as SMB or a safety sausage) are one of the most essential pieces of safety equipment divers must carry. At Ozzy Nautilus we have made certain to keep the best surface marker buoys in stock and available for you.SMBs are pieces of inflatable equipment that divers release to mark and alert other people/boats on the surface that there is currently someone diving in a specific zone. Due to their bright colours and markings, they are easily seen and effective. Rules have been put in place where divers should never be more than 5 meters away from their SMB. Other boats that are not a part of the dive crew should not be any closer than 15 metres away from the SMB. This creates a constant 10-metre buffer zone most of the time but usually varies depending on your local diving regulations. When looking for SMBs to purchase, look for SMBs that are made from a sturdy material, are easy to inflate and have reflective panels. Also as SMBs are usually rolled up during your dives make sure they have an attachment material that keeps them tight and secure - usually a combination of velcro and bungee cord.As it is a legal requirement to carry SMBs with you during dives in some countries, we at Ozzy Nautilus highly recommended that you learn how to deploy a diving buoy before your first dive in case of any emergencies.
